Tick & Mosquito Offense (207) 812-1974

Take Back Your Outdoors With Our Most Popular and Effective Mosquito Control Services

If you are looking for the most effective and widely used means of controlling mosquitoes along with other biting insects, this service is for you. Our EPA approved Synthetic Barrier Protection Plus Hot Spots, under average weather conditions, will kill mosquitoes and other biting insects on contact for up to 3-4 weeks before having to be reapplied. There is a 30 minute wait time for the spray to bond/adhere to foliage. There is no detectable odor from this spray.

A mosquito's life cycle is much shorter than ticks, with as many as 14 different species cycling at different times. Once treatments are started, it is important to remember the best results are realized when regular treatment is consistently made focusing on May, June, July, August and depending on weather conditions, September.

Mosquitoes in Maine can carry both West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Click here to download a reference sheet explaining how to avoid mosquito bites. For more information about mosquito-borne diseases visit the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention website.

Estimating your property: What is the process? What to expect.

1 Evaluation

We will conduct a site visit with you to discuss and determine the best areas to place your perimeter barrier spray treatment while also establishing your property boundaries. Once this has been completed, we will concentrate on your high traffic areas within your perimeter barrier focusing on your concerns and dealing with any hotspots and potential mosquito conducive habitats. We will make recommendations to further reduce the mosquito populations.

2 Proposal

Based on your concerns and needs, our site evaluation will provide you with a detailed written proposal including a sketch of both perimeter barrier and hot spots, along with total square footage of these areas needing treatment. Our recommendations will include a plan of action, suggestions on how to reduce mosquito habitats, costs, and how often we should spray your property to keep mosquitoes away. For more detailed information on pricing, please refer to our FAQs page.

3 Schedule

With your acceptance of our proposal, determining the treatment schedule that works best for your situation, we will set up our first treatment appointment. From there on, we will provide return visits per the contract. To set up your appointment and estimate go to our Contact Us page.

4 Review

Periodically we will contact you to review the effectiveness of our treatment plan. You may choose to ramp up offensive measures by increasing the number of treatments if you find mosquitoes are returning to your property because of weather conditions.

Good Things to Know

EPA Registered Human and Pet Safe

Our mosquito treatments use 100% biodegradable synthetic pyrethrin. These are called pyrethroids. These synthetic pyrethrins are derived from a naturally occurring compound found in chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethroids are commonly used in numerous household products and pet shampoos. There is a 30 minute wait time or until dry, to ensure the solution completely adheres to foliage.

What About Beneficial Insects?

This is a great question. We do not spray at random. By creating a perimeter barrier around your home and focusing on hotspots within the barrier, we reduce pesticide use while maintaining beneficial insects. Part of our State Certification and Licensing trains us how to work with beneficials.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

If we focus on two important considerations: the first being how much time is spent outdoors, whether you are relaxing in your backyard or hosting special events through the summer months (June, July, August, September). Secondly, targeting the many life cycles of (14 species) mosquitoes we can predict and tailor our four treatment plan to best address your needs while targeting mosquito peak breeding periods.

If your needs or circumstances are different, we can customize your four treatment plan to best suit your schedule by either increasing or decreasing additional treatments if preferred or necessary.

Why Not Just DIY?

DIY efforts can result with little to no changes in controlling long term biting insect problems. For example, eggs of mosquitoes and many other insects are not affected by pesticides. Mosquitoes reproduce at staggering rates in puddles and wet spots that can't be controlled by most adulticides. By targeting these dense breeding grounds with the right larvacide before they develop wings and get off the ground, we can significantly reduce the population numbers.

Each life cycle has its Achilles heel. The right timing, combined with the right choice of pesticide and proper application equipment, finished off with a basic understanding of IPM practices can make all the difference in you being able to enjoy your outdoor spaces throughout the Summer months.
